Portland squeaks by Islanders, 3-2

The Portland Jr Pirates and Islanders were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Portland made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Nick Robinson's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The Jr Pirates were paced by Robinson, who grabbed one goal. Robinson scored 17:07 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Portland. Kenneth Richards assisted on the tally.

Portland forced Islanders goalie Andrew McLeman to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Colt Steele also scored for Portland. Other players who recorded assists for Portland were Taylor Browne, who had one and Ryan Locke, who had two.

Islanders put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jr Pirates to score on any of their four power plays.

Islanders was led by Cody Reagan, who registered one goal and one assist. Reagan scored 17:05 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Justin Fisher picked up the assist. Islanders also got a goal from David Wilcox as well. In addition, Islanders received assists from Christopher Maksut, who had one.

Christopher Storey recorded 24 saves for Portland. Islanders' McLeman stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Islanders incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors and had no power play opportunities.
