Frederick wins tough contest against Syracuse, 6-4Skate Frederick Sun, Nov 18, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Frederick Freeze escaped with a 6-4 victory over the Syracuse Junior Stars. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Reid Bibb secured the win for Frederick with a goal in the third period. Adam Taylor had two goals and two assists to lead the Freeze. Taylor scored the first of his two goals at 9:25 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Richard Novodomec provided the assist. Taylor's next tally made the score 4-4 with 3:28 left in the third period. Novodomec picked up the assist. Frederick forced Syracuse goalie Nate Skidmore to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. The Freeze found themselves short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays. Frederick also got points from Bibb, who also registered one goal and one assist, Novodomec, who also had two goals and two assists, and Logan Coomes, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Frederick were Florian Cotera, who had three and Zachary Pard and James Stiles, who each chipped in one. The Junior Stars kept Frederick's goalie busy throughout the game, and Michal Marcinek made 37 saves on 41 shots. The defensemen of Syracuse were also effective in the Freeze's zone, and came away with two goals. The Junior Stars could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 78 minutes in penalties during the game. Syracuse was helped by Garth Gray, who tallied one goal. Gray scored on the power play 18:17 into the second period to make the score 3-3. The Junior Stars had gained a power play chance when Taylor was whistled for charging. Nate Zweig provided the assist. Syracuse additionally got points from Nicholas Mercurio, who also registered one goal and one assist and Erik Kurz, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Syracuse also got a goal from Anthony Angello as well. In addition, Syracuse received assists from Steven Staversky, Tyler OMara, and Jesse Farabee, who contributed one a piece. Frederick registered three goals on 13 power play opportunities. Skidmore recorded 39 saves for Syracuse. For the Junior Stars, Head Coach and Assistant Coach were ejected from the contest.
