New Hampshire blows out Portland, 5-1

The New Hampshire Jr Monarchs had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Portland Jr Pirates.

New Hampshire was led by goalie Dylan Palmer, who finished with 30 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Palmer will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.53.

The Jr Monarchs were paced by Michael Bears, who tallied one goal. Bears scored 11:39 into the first period to make the score 2-0 New Hampshire. Michael Fabie picked up the assist.

New Hampshire racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game the Jr Monarchs had been spending in the box. New Hampshire kept Portland's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Tracy made 33 saves on 38 shots.

New Hampshire also got points from Connor Merrick, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Shane Tracy, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. New Hampshire also got a goal from Eric Grover as well. In addition, New Hampshire received assists from Christopher Moquin, who had two and Ty Anderson and James Jamieson, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr Pirates were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. Portland had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Jr Pirates' offense rang up 31 shots on the Jr Monarchs' net.

Portland was led by Dakota Keene, who scored the team's only goal. Keene scored on the power play 3:12 into the second period to make the score 2-1 New Hampshire.

New Hampshire registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. The Jr Pirates registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
