Cook's big game bests Buffalo in 10-0 Maksymum win

The Buffalo Stars had trouble finding ways to stop the Maksymum Junior Hockey (Rochester), which beat Stars, 10-0.

Maksymum got the win thanks to a great game by Cam Cook, who had two goals and two assists. Cook scored the first of his two goals at 7:32 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Maksymum. Cook's next tally made the score 5-0 Maksymum with 3:01 left in the second period.

Buffalo's power play was ineffective against the Junior Hockey (Rochester)'s penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Maksymum forced the Stars' goaltenders to work between the pipes, taking 59 shots and forcing 49 saves. Thomas Brown made 34 stops and Alec Horwitz made 15. The Junior Hockey (Rochester) excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Maksymum's defense was surprisingly good. The Junior Hockey (Rochester) average 2.4 goals allowed per game. Maksymum bested its season scoring average. This season, the Junior Hockey (Rochester) average 3.7 goals per contest. The defensemen of Maksymum were also effective in Buffalo's zone, and came away with two goals. The Junior Hockey (Rochester) could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Maksymum also got points from Gregory Miller, who also had one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Maksymum included Dylan Versage, who had three and Mitchell Deridder, Kevin Geeza, Austin Harding, and Kevin DiMagno, who scored one goal each. In addition, Maksymum received assists from Daniel Goldstein, Tanner Woodruff, and Ian Sylves, who each chipped in one and Michael Whitehair and Seth Giles, who contributed two a piece.

The Stars found themselves short handed often, totaling 20 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

Maksymum took out Jake Bryniarski after he had made seven saves and installed Sylves in goal, where he finished with 16 saves and the win.
