Portland beats East Coast 5-2 as Steele gets hat trick

The East Coast Eagles could not stop the Portland Jr Pirates' Colt Steele, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-2 win.

Steele's first goal came 8:43 into the first period. He then added goals at 16:23 into the first and at 11:45 into the second.

Portland surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Jr Pirates average 2.2 goals per contest. Portland could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Callen Morisseau also scored for Portland. More assists for Portland came via Ryan Locke, who had two, Nick Robinson and Timothy Storey, who contributed one a piece, and Nate Bergeson and Evan Jewell, who each chipped in three.

East Coast found itself short handed often, totaling 54 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

The Eagles were helped by Graff Richards, who registered one goal. Richards scored 22:04 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Portland. Jacob Weldon provided the assist. East Coast also got a goal from Samuel Banasiewicz as well. Other players who recorded assists for East Coast were Bailey King, who had one.

Maxwell Boucher took the win and made nine saves before being replaced by Cam Riddle who made eight saves. Ryan Taylor recorded 16 saves for East Coast. The Eagles registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
