Junior Bruins uses early goal to top Suffolk, 2-1

Cam Cottam scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and Junior Bruins held off the challenges of the Suffolk PAL in a tough 2-1 win.

Junior Bruins took over the lead for good with a goal by Cottam at 7:59 in the first period. Junior Bruins had gotten the advantage when Suffolk's Michael Martino was sent off for slashing. Ryan OToole picked up the assist.

Junior Bruins pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 12 penalty minutes.

Junior Bruins was sparked by Anthony Galloway, who had one goal. Galloway scored 20:28 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Junior Bruins. Alexander Pantalone provided the assist.

Junior Bruins put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the PAL to score on any of their six power plays. Junior Bruins was held below its usual level of production. Junior Bruins puts an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game. Junior Bruins kept Suffolk's goalie busy throughout the game, and Peter Fosso made 31 saves on 33 shots.

In addition, Junior Bruins received assists from Kyle Griffin and Vince DAmato, who each chipped in one.

The PAL's offense operated below they season average. Suffolk averages 3.1 goals per game.

The PAL were led by Andrew Cozzi, who scored the team's only goal. Cozzi scored 2:50 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Junior Bruins.

Maxwell Barr rejected 22 shots on goal for Junior Bruins. Junior Bruins registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Suffolk incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
