Springfield takes care of Salem early, wins 14-2

The Salem Ice Dogs fell behind early, and the Springfield Pics kept piling on the points on the way to a 14-2 victory.

Robert Smith was all over the ice for Springfield, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Smith scored on the power play 7:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Springfield. The Pics had gained a power play chance when Nicholas Nonis was whistled for tripping. Thane Schinabeck assisted on the tally.

Springfield forced Ice Dogs' goalies to work without much rest, ripping 67 shots and forcing 53 saves. Shawn Horton made 18 stops and Bradley Radin made 35. The Pics excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Springfield's goal total was higher than its season average. The Pics average 3.8 goals per game.

Springfield additionally got points from torrico, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Brandon Korytko, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Jeremy Wich, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Riley Green, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Schinabeck, who also racked up three goals and two assists to lead the team in points, and Mario Fontanella, who also registered one goal and one assist. Springfield also had goals scored by Alec Robinson, who had one and Matthew Antonacci and Christopher Breault, who scored two goals each. More assists for Springfield came via Conner Brochu, who had two, Nicholas Sibilia and Joe Mercadante, who contributed one a piece, and Logan Schinabeck and Stefan Koproske, who each chipped in three.

Salem forced Springfield goalie Randall Smith to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Ice Dogs struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Pics to score three power play goals on three chances.

Smith rejected 36 shots on goal for Springfield. The Pics incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Salem incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
