Cavanagh's goals lift Hampton Roads to 5-2 victory over Potomac

Regen Cavanagh was all over the ice for the Hampton Roads Whalers, as he tallied two goals in Hampton Roads' 5-2 win over the Potomac Patriots.

Cavanagh scored at 4:33 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 7:36 into the second to make the score 2-1 Hampton Roads.

Potomac's power play was ineffective against the Whalers' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Hampton Roads kept the Patriots' goalie busy throughout the game, and Patrick Anderson made 31 saves on 36 shots. The Whalers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Hampton Roads also got points from Craig Boyd, who also finished with one goal and four assists to lead the team in points. Jonathon Jones also scored for Hampton Roads. Other players who recorded assists for Hampton Roads were Nick Jones, who had one.

Potomac excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Patriots forced Hampton Roads goalie Taylor Brost to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Potomac was helped by Noah Rubin, who tallied one goal. Rubin scored on the power play 4:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Potomac. The Patriots had taken the advantage when the Whalers' Grant Phillips got sent off for hooking. Micah Dabao provided the assist. Potomac also got a goal from Miles Miller as well. More assists for Potomac came via Robert Stone and Kyle Powers, who contributed one a piece.

Taylor Brost made 37 saves for Hampton Roads on 39 shots. Potomac incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
