Springfield squeaks by Portland, 4-2

The Springfield Pics gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Portland Jr Pirates.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Brandon Korytko's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

In a losing effort, Portland was led by Evan Jewell, who had two goals. Jewell scored the first of his two goals at 16:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Portland. Liam Slyne assisted on the tally. Jewell's next tally made the score 2-1 Portland with 11:28 left in the second period. An interference penalty on William Carrabino had put the Jr Pirates on the power play. Gregory Lodge picked up the assist.

In a losing effort, Portland was led by Jewell, who finished with two goals.

Springfield forced the Jr Pirates goalie Maxwell Boucher to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Springfield additionally got points from Matthew Antonacci, who also registered one goal and one assist. Springfield also got a goal from Stefan Koproske as well. More assists for Springfield came via Joe Mercadante and Green, who contributed one a piece and Conner Brochu and Mario Fontanella, who each chipped in two.

Portland managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Jr Pirates finished below its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Portland kept the Pics' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ian Milosz made 31 saves on 33 shots.

In addition, Portland received assists from Callen Morisseau and Justin Munck, who contributed one a piece.

Springfield incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Maxwell Boucher made 34 saves for the Jr Pirates on 37 shots. Portland registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
