Koerner nets hat trick, leads Florida Junior Blades to 10-2 win over Tampa Bay

Joshua Koerner lifted Florida Junior Blades to a 10-2 victory with a hat trick against the Tampa Bay Juniors.

Koerner's first goal came 2:54 into the first period. He then added goals at 10:32 into the first and at 4:06 into the third.

Florida Junior Blades led 5-0 after the opening frame the first period and maintained a healthy margin after.

Florida Junior Blades pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 28 penalty minutes.

Florida Junior Blades forced Tampa Bay's goalies to work in net, getting 92 shots and forcing 82 saves. Emil Eriksson made 19 stops and Kyle Gertz made 63. Florida Junior Blades put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Juniors to score on any of their six power plays. Florida Junior Blades bested its season scoring average. Florida Junior Blades has scored at the pace of 4.1 goals per game during the current campaign.

Florida Junior Blades also got points from Jonathan Davidson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Adam Fowler, who also had one goal and two assists. Florida Junior Blades also had goals scored by Chaise Howard, who had two and Jacob Leonard, Chase Jeppesen, and Brant Takmajian, who each put in one. In addition, Florida Junior Blades received assists from Matt Benolkin, who had two, Daniel Thompson, Jeffrey Solow, and Trevor Mullaly, who contributed one a piece, and Troy Degler and Michael Haskins, who each chipped in four.

Tampa Bay made Florida Junior Blades' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 35 shots and forcing 33 saves. Jacob Carter made 24 stops and Sergey Hall made nine. The Juniors could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Tampa Bay averages 4.9 goals per game. The Juniors could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game.

Florida Junior Blades registered two goals on 12 power play opportunities.
