NY AppleCore holds on for 3-2 win against SyracuseCicero NHL Sat, Oct 20, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Syracuse Junior Stars tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the NY AppleCore Minor B would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2. A goal by Blake Manginell put NY AppleCore up 3-1 in the second period, but Syracuse pulled to within one on Tom Nicholson's tally 3:55 into the third period. Manginell was all over the ice for the Minor B, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Manginell scored the first of his two goals at 4:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 NY AppleCore. Cameron Giertych assisted on the tally. Manginell's next tally made the score NY AppleCore with 14:38 left in the second period. Jonathan Kaszuba picked up the assist. NY AppleCore put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Junior Stars to score on any of their three power plays. The Minor B forced Syracuse goalie Matt Schneider to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. NY AppleCore also got a goal from Cale Schoenberg as well. Other players who recorded assists for NY AppleCore were Andrew DeAngelis, who had one. The Junior Stars' offense rang up 34 shots on NY AppleCore's net. Syracuse was helped by Tyler OMara, who racked up one goal. OMara scored 12:48 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Anthony Angello assisted on the tally. In addition, Syracuse received assists from Kyle Bird, Alex Taylor, and Joey Rutkowski, who contributed one a piece. The Minor B's Justin Kapelmaster stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. NY AppleCore incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Schneider rejected 36 shots on goal for the Junior Stars. Syracuse incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
