ODonnell's big game bests Salem in 8-1 Bay State winEverett Sat, Oct 20, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Ryan ODonnell was all over the ice for the Bay State Breakers, as he tallied two goals and three assists in Bay State's 8-1 win over the Salem Ice Dogs. ODonnell scored at 38 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Bay State and again while 16:08 into the third to make the score 7-1 Bay State.Salem was stymied by the Breakers netminder Matthew Farrell, who stopped 47 shots during the victory. Farrell certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.59 entering the contest. Bay State excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Breakers kept the Ice Dogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Shawn Horton made 51 saves on 59 shots. Bay State found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Breakers average 4.7 goals per game. The defensemen of Bay State were also effective in Salem's zone, and came away with three goals. Bay State also got points from Gavin Yates, who also tallied two goals and two assists, John Sheehan, who also registered one goal and one assist, Henry Nelson, who also had one goal and one assist, and Antonio Marini, who also finished with two goals and two assists. In addition, Bay State received assists from Nicholas Russo, who had one and John Duranczyk and Ryan Dunn, who contributed three a piece. The Breakers were unable to stop the Ice Dogs from sending pucks towards the net, and Salem eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. The Ice Dogs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game. Salem was led by Bobby Mullins, who scored the team's only goal. Mullins scored 40 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Salem. Raymond Jacques assisted on the tally. Bay State incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
