Atlanta rips Hampton Roads, 5-1

The Atlanta Knights had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Hampton Roads Whalers.

Atlanta's penalty kill excelled, as the Knights gave up one goal despite allowing 10 power plays.

Atlanta was led by Ryan Dumond, who registered one goal. Dumond scored on the power play 7:10 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Atlanta. The Knights had taken the advantage when Hampton Roads' Jeremy Wilson got sent off for tripping. Cale Massa provided the assist.

Atlanta made the Whalers' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 53 shots and forcing 48 saves. Tyler Kraft made two stops and Taylor Brost made 46. The Knights had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 12 chances. Atlanta could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 22 minutes in penalties during the game.

Atlanta also had goals scored by Sage Dugas, who had two and Austin Ventura and Cole Stallard, who each put in one. More assists for Atlanta came via Christopher Santa Maria, Se Kim, Matthew Benz, Jack Trischett, and Alex MacInnis, who contributed one a piece.

Hampton Roads did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Whalers average 4.1 goals per game. Hampton Roads could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Hampton Roads also got a goal from Nathan Kanter as well. In addition, Hampton Roads received assists from Jonathon Jones, who had one.

The Knights' Lucas Thurston stopped 22 shots out of the 23 that he faced.
