Frederick uses shootout to best Syracuse, 4-3

Sullivan Arena (St. Anselm)    Sat, Oct 06, 2012

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Frederick Freeze defeated the Syracuse Junior Stars in a shootout 4-3.

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams. Syracuse got a shootout goal from Garth Gray. Frederick's other shootout goal was scored by Zachary Pard.

The Freeze were led by Logan Coomes, who had one goal. Coomes scored on the power play 22:08 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Frederick. A checking from behind penalty on Tom Nicholson had put Frederick on the power play. Reid Bibb assisted on the tally.

The Freeze managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Frederick finished below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. The Freeze forced the Junior Stars goalie Nate Skidmore to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Patrick Meigher also scored for Frederick. Other players who recorded assists for Frederick were Casey Donegan, Pard, and Adam Gnatowski, who contributed one a piece.

Syracuse kept Frederick's goalie busy throughout the game, and Daniel Dolliver made 38 saves on 41 shots.

The Junior Stars were led by Anthony Angello, who grabbed two goals. Angello scored the first of his two goals at 15:42 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Frederick. Angello's next tally made the score 3-2 Frederick with -33 seconds left in the second period. Gray provided the assist. Syracuse also got a goal from Jesse Farabee as well.
