Huge game by Martello boosts Jersey Hitmen over Connecticut, 6-3SoNo Ice House Thu, Oct 04, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Jersey Hitmen's James Martello had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 6-3 win over the Connecticut Oilers. Martello's tallies came short handed at 15:05 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Jersey Hitmen and 16:00 into the third to make the score 5-3 Jersey Hitmen.Jersey Hitmen pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes. Jersey Hitmen stifled Connecticut's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Oilers were unable to stop Jersey Hitmen from sending pucks towards the net, and Jersey Hitmen eventually piled up 52 shots on goal. Jersey Hitmen additionally got points from Luke Rodgers, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Justin McKenzie also scored for Jersey Hitmen. More assists for Jersey Hitmen came via Brendan Riley, who had two and Lucas Luppino, Jonathan Spada, Joe Masonius, and Dylan Healey, who each chipped in one. Connecticut made Jersey Hitmen's goaltenders to work between the pipes, finishing with 38 shots and forcing 35 saves. Michael OMaley made 18 stops and Ryan Glander made 17. The Oilers were helped by Philip Prins, who registered two goals. Prins scored the first of his two goals at 2:38 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Christopher Santello assisted on the tally. Prins' next tally made the score 3-3 with 14:09 left in the second period. Ryan Harper provided the assist. Connecticut also got points from Harper, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Connecticut received assists from Charles Widmar, who had two and Stephan Seeger and David Landau, who contributed one a piece. Jersey Hitmen registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Connecticut's Gryphon Richardson stopped 46 shots out of the 51 that he faced. The Oilers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
