Jersey Hitmen uses early goal to top NY AppleCore, 5-3

Jersey Hitmen beat the NY AppleCore Minor B, 5-3, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

A goal 12:08 into the the first period by Glenn Florczak proved to be the game winner, and powered Jersey Hitmen to the victory David Kearns picked up the assist.

Florczak was all over the ice for Jersey Hitmen, as he finished with two goals in the win.

Jersey Hitmen pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 32 penalty minutes.

Jersey Hitmen put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow NY AppleCore to score on any of its eight power plays. The Minor B were unable to stop Jersey Hitmen from sending pucks towards the net, and Jersey Hitmen eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Jersey Hitmen additionally got points from James Martello, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Matt Langlois also scored for Jersey Hitmen. Other players who recorded assists for Jersey Hitmen were Robby Marsanico, who had two and Justin McKenzie, Collin Kirkpatrick, Jonathan Spada, Joe Masonius, and Luke Rodgers, who each chipped in one.

NY AppleCore's offense rang up 34 shots on Jersey Hitmen's net. The Minor B's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. NY AppleCore is averaging 2.5 goals against for the season. The Minor B could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

NY AppleCore was helped by Blake Manginell, who grabbed one goal. Manginell scored 10:52 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Andrew Barroso provided the assist. NY AppleCore also got a goal from James Sharpe as well. More assists for NY AppleCore came via Nolan Pues, John Stevenson, Kevin T Miller, and Jonathan Kaszuba, who contributed one a piece.

Jersey Hitmen's Jordan Hulahan stopped 31 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Jersey Hitmen registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Justin Kapelmaster rejected 35 shots on goal for the Minor B.
