MacDonald's hat trick boosts Atlanta over East Coast, 6-1

Marietta Ice Center    Sat, Sep 29, 2012

Patrick MacDonald netted a hat trick to lead the Atlanta Knights over the East Coast Eagles, 6-1.

MacDonald notched his first tally 4:50 into the second period. He then added goals at 31 seconds into the third and at 10:53 into the third.

Atlanta pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 20 penalty minutes.

The Knights kept East Coast's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Taylor made 39 saves on 45 shots.

Austin Ventura also scored for Atlanta. In addition, Atlanta received assists from Cole Stallard, who had three and Bradley Harley, Christopher Santa Maria, Se Kim, Zachary Egan, Cale Massa, Kienan Fenton, and Alex MacInnis, who each chipped in one.

The Eagles were held below their usual level of production. East Coast puts an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. Atlanta's defense shut down the Eagles' forwards for much of the game, and East Coast got off only 14 shots during the contest. The Eagles struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 20 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.

East Coast was led by Graff Richards, who scored the team's only goal. Richards scored on the power play 13:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Atlanta. The Eagles earned a power play opportunity when Massa was put in the box for hooking. Thomas Gilmartin provided the assist.

Sean Davis recorded 13 saves for the Knights. East Coast registered one goal on eight power play opportunities.
