Huge game by Brown boosts Connecticut over South Shore, 5-1

Behind a great game by Todd Brown, who had two goals and one assist, the Connecticut Oilers defeated the South Shore Kings, 5-1.

Brown's tallies came on the power play at 14:55 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and on the power play 3:50 into the third to make the score 2-1 Connecticut.

Connecticut's penalty kill excelled, as the Oilers gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

Connecticut's offense rang up 35 shots on South Shore's net. The Oilers found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Connecticut averages 2.6 goals per contest. The Oilers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Connecticut also got points from Philip Prins, who also registered one goal and one assist and Charles Widmar, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Connecticut also got a goal from Tommy Green as well. In addition, Connecticut received assists from Stephan Seeger, who had two and Mark Leprine and Ryan Harper, who contributed one a piece.

The Kings could not produce up to they normal offensive output. South Shore puts an average of 4.0 pucks into the net per game. The Kings' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as South Shore finished with 32 penalty minutes.

The Kings were led by Philip Falkof, who scored the team's only goal. Falkof scored on the power play 13:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 South Shore. South Shore had gotten the advantage when Connecticut's Erik Nergaard was sent off for hooking. Dylan_P Burns provided the assist.

Gryphon Richardson made 20 saves for the Oilers on 21 shots. Connecticut registered three goals on 10 power play opportunities. The Kings' Ian Freeman stopped 30 shots out of the 35 that he faced.
