The Hampton Roads Whalers pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Potomac Patriots on a clutch goal by Michael Addison. Hampton Roads came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Whalers fell behind 4-2 after a goal by Potomac's Jack Strycharz at 56 seconds in the third period. Hampton Roads knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Jeremy Wilson at 16:51 in the third period. Addison had a great game for the Whalers, netting two goals. Addison's tallies came at 15:46 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Potomac and 3:47 into the fourth to make the score 5-4 Hampton Roads. Hampton Roads' offense rang up 31 shots on the Patriots' net. The Whalers' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Hampton Roads finished with 17 penalty minutes. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Hampton Roads also got points from Wilson, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Hampton Roads also got a goal from Brandon Large as well. In addition, Hampton Roads received assists from Grant Phillips, Trent Carter, Kyle Buchanan, Phoenix Dreer, and Nathan Kanter, who contributed one a piece. Potomac kept the Whalers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Taylor Brost made 36 saves on 40 shots. The Patriots were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on 10 chances. Miles Miller also scored for Potomac. More assists for Potomac came via Tyler Nolan, Robert Stone, and Matthew Reynolds, who each chipped in one. Hampton Roads registered one goal on three power play opportunities. TJ Hollen recorded 26 saves for Potomac. The Patriots incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
