Merrick's big game bests Salem in 6-2 New Hampshire win

Connor Merrick had one goal and two assists to lead the New Hampshire Jr Monarchs to a 6-2 victory over the Salem Ice Dogs.

Merrick beat Bradley Radin with a shot 8:13 into the first period to make the score 2-0 New Hampshire. Ty Anderson assisted on the tally. Merrick dished an assist on Christopher Moquin's goal that made the score 4-2 New Hampshire at 9:43 into the third period. He added another helper on Moquin's goal that made the score 5-2 New Hampshire at 17:31 into the third period.

Salem was unable to stop New Hampshire from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr Monarchs eventually piled up 46 shots on goal.

New Hampshire also got a goal from Ross Mandigo as well. In addition, New Hampshire received assists from Shane Earley, who had two and Nate Philbrick and Stephen Wolf, who each chipped in one.

The Ice Dogs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow New Hampshire to score on any of its four power plays.

Salem was helped by Nunzio Morretti, who had one goal. Morretti scored on the power play 8:21 into the second period to make the score 3-1 New Hampshire. A holding penalty on James Jamieson had put the Ice Dogs on the power play. Trevor Bettano provided the assist. Bobby Mullins also scored for Salem. More assists for Salem came via Raymond Jacques, Nicholas Latham, and Michael Kelleher, who contributed one a piece.

Dylan Palmer rejected 21 shots on goal for the Jr Monarchs. New Hampshire incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Radin recorded 40 saves for Salem. The Ice Dogs incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
