Jones nets hat trick, leads Hampton Roads to 5-3 win over East Coast

The East Coast Eagles could not stop the Hampton Roads Whalers' Jonathon Jones, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-3 win.

Jones' first goal came 18:15 into the first period. He then added goals at 16 seconds into the third and at 16:01 into the third.

Hampton Roads put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow East Coast to score on any of its three power plays. The Eagles were unable to stop the Whalers from sending pucks towards the net, and Hampton Roads eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Hampton Roads additionally got points from Alexander Dempsey, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Hampton Roads also got a goal from Trent Carter as well. In addition, Hampton Roads received assists from Kyle Buchanan, who had one.

East Coast forced the Whalers goalie Taylor Brost to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Eagles struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.

East Coast was helped by Graff Richards, who finished with three goals. More assists for East Coast came via Jacob Weldon, who had three and Matthew Burleson, Bruce Chappell, and Connor Sheehey, who each chipped in one.

Hampton Roads' Brost stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Whalers incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Ryan Taylor made 28 saves for the Eagles on 33 shots.
