Frederick stifles Tampa Bay's comeback, gains 7-5 victory

The Frederick Freeze came close to giving away a five-goal lead to the Tampa Bay Juniors, but did just enough to escape with a 7-5 victory.

Frederick led by five goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Freeze's Pierce McCaull's scored at 1:03 in the second period to put Frederick up 7-2.

The Freeze's offense was sparked by Logan Coomes, as he ended with four assists in a victory against Tampa Bay.

Frederick forced the Juniors goalie Emil Eriksson to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. The Freeze surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Frederick averages 4.8 goals per contest. The Freeze's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Frederick averages 2.3 goals allowed per game. The Freeze's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Frederick finished with 40 penalty minutes.

Frederick additionally got points from McCaull, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Zachary Pard, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Adam Taylor, who also racked up two goals and one assist, and Florian Cotera, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Frederick also got a goal from Ryley Harper as well. More assists for Frederick came via Richard Novodomec, who had one.

Tampa Bay racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The Juniors surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game.

Tampa Bay was helped by JC Bradley, who tallied one goal and one assist. Bradley scored on the power play 20:37 into the second period to make the score 7-5 Frederick. The Juniors earned a power play opportunity when Coomes was put in the box for elbowing. Roope Hintz picked up the assist. Tampa Bay also got points from Hintz, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Zachary Capco, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Tucker Barone also scored for Tampa Bay. In addition, Tampa Bay received assists from Nicholas Frankich, who had two and Kurt Williams, Brendan Nicholson, Austin Teall, and Christian Aunspaugh, who each chipped in one.

Michal Marcinek made 17 saves for the Freeze on 22 shots. Frederick registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Eriksson rejected 33 shots on goal for Tampa Bay. The Juniors registered three goals on 10 power play opportunities.
