Suffolk hangs on, beats Adirondack 3-1RPI Houston House Sat, Sep 15, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Tyler Murphy scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Suffolk PAL held off the challenges of the Adirondack Junior Wings in a tough 3-1 win. Suffolk took over the lead for good with a goal by Murphy at 2:27 in the first period. Evan Schwartz assisted on the tally.Murphy had a great game for the PAL, netting two goals. Suffolk was led by goalie Peter Fosso, who finished with 36 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Fosso will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest. The the PAL penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. Suffolk surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game. The PAL forced Adirondack goalie Crae Messer to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Suffolk also got a goal from Thomas Dunn as well. More assists for Suffolk came via Joseph Duszak, who had one. The Junior Wings forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Adirondack had been averaging 14.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Junior Wings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Suffolk to score on any of its eight power plays. Adirondack's offense rang up 37 shots on the PAL's net. The Junior Wings were led by Cameron Kuhl, who scored the team's only goal. Kuhl scored on the power play 11:11 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Suffolk. Adirondack had gotten the advantage when Suffolk's Joseph Walsh was sent off for tripping. Sam Vincent provided the assist. For the PAL, Cameron Smith was ejected from the game. Messer rejected 33 shots on goal for the Junior Wings. Adirondack registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
