Helena Bighorns rips Gillette Wild, 7-1

Helena Bighorns had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-1 win over Gillette Wild.

Helena Bighorns' Troy Turpin was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 35 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, Turpin will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

Gillette Wild's power play was ineffective against Helena Bighorns' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Helena Bighorns made Gillette Wild's goalies to work without much rest, totaling 55 shots and forcing 48 saves. Nick Vittori made 29 stops and Brandon Kruckenberg made 19. Helena Bighorns was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 47 penalty minutes. Helena Bighorns' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Helena Bighorns was helped by Logan Hawgood, who finished with one goal and one assist. Hawgood scored 19:13 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Helena Bighorns.
