Cornwall vanquishes Smiths Falls in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cornwall Colts defeated the Smiths Falls Bears in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Smiths Falls' shootout goal was scored by Michael Buonincontri. Cornwall also got a shootout goal from Marly Quince.

The Colts overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Cornwall was down 3-1 after a goal by the Bears' Peter Soligo at 12:58 in the second period. The Colts tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Pietro Antonelli at 18:21 in the third period.

Smiths Falls was unable to stop Cornwall from sending pucks towards the net, and the Colts eventually piled up 51 shots on goal.

Cornwall was helped by Tanner Spink, who tallied one goal. Spink scored 12:38 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Smiths Falls. Michael Pontarelli assisted on the tally. Cornwall also got a goal from Grant Cooper as well. More assists for Cornwall came via Mitch Zion, who had one and Anthony Sanniti, who had three.

The Bears excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Smiths Falls' offense rang up 38 shots on the Colts' net.

The Bears were helped by Patrick Sexton, who registered one goal. Sexton scored on the power play 19:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls. Smiths Falls had taken the advantage when Cornwall's Sanniti got sent off for boarding. Tyler Akeson provided the assist. Yannick Crete also scored for Smiths Falls. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Blaine Byron, Stefano Momesso, Brett Costello, Jeffrey Carroll, and Buonincontri, who contributed one a piece.

Jordan Piccolino rejected 35 shots on goal for the Colts. Cornwall incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Bears' Patrick Martin stopped 47 shots out of the 50 that he faced. Smiths Falls incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
