Nepean rips Kanata, 4-1

The Kanata Stallions had trouble finding ways to stop the Nepean Raiders, which beat Stallions, 4-1.

Nepean was led by Mitchell Herlihey, who grabbed one goal. Herlihey scored 7:58 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Nepean. Dalen Hedges picked up the assist.

The Raiders put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Kanata to score on any of its four power plays. Nepean forced the Stallions goalie Brandon Lane to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

Nepean also got points from Brandon Watt, who also had one goal and one assist. Vincent Llorca also scored for Nepean. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Brent Norris, who had two and Richard Therrien, Philippe Drouin, and Cameron Yarwood, who contributed one a piece.

Kanata excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Stallions' offense operated below they season average. Kanata puts an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game.

The Stallions were led by Braedan Moffatt, who scored the team's only goal. Moffatt scored 10:21 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Nepean. Nic LaBurn provided the assist.

The Raiders' Matt Zawadzki stopped 17 shots out of the 18 that he faced. Nepean ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. The Raiders ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brandon Belding was ejected from the game. Lane rejected 38 shots on goal for Kanata. The Stallions ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For Kanata, C Blakely was ejected from the game.
