The Ottawa Senators and the Hawkesbury Hawks played 60 tight minutes of hockey, but in the end it was Ottawa that came away with a 1-0 victory. The assists on the winning goal came courtesy of Chad Millett and Chris King.The Senators were led by Ryan Collins, who racked up one goal. Collins scored on the power play 7:14 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Ottawa. Ottawa had gained a power play chance when Holden Anderson was whistled for tripping. Millett assisted on the tally. The Senators excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Ottawa was held below its usual level of production. The Senators put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. Ottawa's defensive play was more effective than usual against Hawkesbury. The Senators allow 2.8 goals per game. Ottawa forced the Hawks goalie Carmine Guerriero to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Hawkesbury could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Hawks average 3.0 goals per game. Charlie Millen made 23 saves for the Senators on 23 shots. Ottawa incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Guerriero recorded 31 saves for Hawkesbury. The Hawks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
