Hawkesbury hangs on, beats Cumberland 5-3Navan Memorial Centre Sun, Dec 09, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Hawkesbury Hawks took the lead against the Cumberland Grads in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 5-3 victory. Pietro Antonelli provided Hawkesbury with the game-winning tally when he scored 12:20 into the the first period. Stefano Momesso picked up the assist.Antonelli had one goal and two assists to lead the Hawks. Hawkesbury forced Cumberland goalie Devan Tremblay to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. The Hawks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 27 penalty minutes. The defensemen of Hawkesbury were also effective in the Grads' zone, and came away with two goals. Hawkesbury additionally got points from Holden Anderson, who also registered one goal and two assists and Jean-Pierre Larmoyeux, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Hawkesbury also got a goal from Yanik Laliberte as well. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Ryan Kruss and Brandon Bussey, who each chipped in one. Cumberland was helped by David Higgs, who finished with one goal. Higgs scored on the power play 16:00 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Hawkesbury. The Grads had gotten the advantage when the Hawks' Peter Kapelanski was sent off for hooking. Bobby Williams provided the assist. Cumberland also got points from Colin Kruse, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Chris King also scored for Cumberland. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Travis Douglas, who had two and Sean Naish and Mark Golberg, who contributed one a piece. Hawkesbury's starting goalie, Carmine Guerriero, made 25 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Nicholas Newport, who stopped zero shots. The Hawks registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For Hawkesbury, Francis Landers, Tristen Elie, and Bussey were ejected from the contest. Devan Tremblay made 38 saves for Cumberland on 43 shots. The Grads totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 2-for-6 on the power play. Team's Andrew DeBrincat and Higgs were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
