Kanata completes comeback, beats Kemptville, 3-2

The Kanata Stallions rallied from two goals down to secure a 3-2 win over the Kemptville 73s.

Kanata never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Stallions was down 2-0 after a goal by Kemptville's Lucas Gonu at 19:39 in the first period. Kanata knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Alex Robinson at 11:26 in the third period. The Stallions netted the game winner on the power play at 15:08 in the third period on a goal by Robinson.

Kanata was sparked by Brandon Petrie, who grabbed one goal.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:14 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Stallions forced the 73s goalie Jacob Tugnutt to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Kanata struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 22 penalty minutes for four opposing power plays.

Kanata also got points from Derian Plouffe, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Kanata came via JJ Hart, Nic LaBurn, and Mike Zajac, who contributed one a piece.

Kemptville was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 22 penalty minutes.

The 73s were helped by Joey House, who tallied one goal. House scored on the power play 8:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kemptville. Kemptville had gotten the advantage when the Stallions' Alex Stothart was sent off for kneeing. Brett Varrin assisted on the tally. In addition, Kemptville received assists from Ryan Patulli and Brandon Seatter, who each chipped in one.

Kanata's Brandon Lane stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Stallions registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Team's Cole Hutchinson and Niles Owen were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Tugnutt rejected 33 shots on goal for the 73s. For Kemptville, Cole Allard and Ben St Marseille were ejected from the contest.
