Kemptville falls apart in second, loses to Ottawa, 6-1

The Kemptville 73s was within striking distance after one period, but the Ottawa Senators put the pedal down in the second en route to a 6-1 victory.

Hunter Racine was all over the ice for Ottawa, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Racine scored the first of his two goals at 15:54 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Greg Jansz provided the assist. Racine's next tally made the score 3-1 Ottawa with 15:29 left in the second period. Eric Witzel assisted on the tally.

The Senators' offense rang up 60 shots on Kemptville's net. Ottawa bested its season scoring average. This season, the Senators average 3.8 goals per contest.

Ottawa additionally got points from Witzel, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Ottawa included Josh Gervais, who had one and Joey Champigny, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Ottawa were Mike Martin and Steven Savage, who contributed one a piece and Ryan Collins and Ben Robillard, who each chipped in two.

The 73s managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Kemptville ended up below its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game.

The 73s were led by Stephen Cooney, who scored the team's only goal. Cooney scored 13:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kemptville. Jesse Lussier provided the assist.

Charlie Millen rejected 20 shots on goal for Ottawa. The Senators incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Jacob Tugnutt recorded 54 saves for Kemptville. The 73s registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
