Kemptville uses shootout to best Pembroke, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kemptville 73s defeated the Pembroke Lumber Kings in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Pembroke got a shootout goal from Jordan Larson. Kemptville's other shootout goal was scored by Lucas Gonu.

The 73s overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Kemptville was down 2-0 after a power play goal by the Lumber Kings' Larson at 19:59 in the first period. The 73s tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Matt Rosebrook at 33 seconds in the third period.

Pembroke's power play was ineffective against Kemptville's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Kemptville additionally got points from Blaine Byron, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Kemptville received assists from Matt Martin and Gonu, who each chipped in one.

Brian Hennessey also scored for Pembroke. More assists for Pembroke came via Tyler Gaudet, who had two and Michael Crocock and Charlie Connell, who contributed one a piece.

Billy Cooper rejected 28 shots on goal for the 73s. Kemptville incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Darren Smith recorded 21 saves for the Lumber Kings. Pembroke ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For the Lumber Kings, Philippe Drouin was ejected from the game.
