Kanata vanquishes Kemptville in shootout, 4-3 (2-0 SO)Kanata Recreational Complex A Fri, Sep 07, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kanata Stallions defeated the Kemptville 73s in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO). The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams. Kanata's other shootout goal was scored by Joe Breslin.The Stallions came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Kanata fell behind 3-1 after a goal by Kemptville's Joey House at 1:57 in the second period. The Stallions knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Fabian Walsh at 13:28 in the third period. Kanata's penalty kill excelled, as the Stallions gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. Kanata kept the 73s' goalie busy throughout the game, and Dylan BrindAmour made 29 saves on 33 shots. The Stallions were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of nine man advantages. Kanata was helped by Connor Cobbold, who finished with one goal. Cobbold scored on the power play 10:53 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Kemptville. The Stallions had taken the advantage when Kemptville's Matt Martin got sent off for high sticking. Breslin provided the assist. Reid Murphy also scored for Kanata. In addition, Kanata received assists from Curtis Watson, Francois Lemelin, Derian Plouffe, and Braedan Moffatt, who each chipped in one. The 73s forced Kanata goalie Brandon Lane to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. Kemptville additionally got points from Lucas Gonu, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kemptville also got a goal from Blaine Byron as well. Other players who recorded assists for Kemptville were James Devlin, Stephen Cooney, Matt Rosebrook, and Jesse Lussier, who contributed one a piece. Lane rejected 41 shots on goal for the Stallions. Kanata incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Kemptville incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
