Huge game by Vaskivuo boosts Fort Wayne over Wichita, 6-3

The Fort Wayne Komets' Mike Vaskivuo had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 6-3 win over the Wichita Thunder.

Vaskivuo's tallies came at 14:58 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Fort Wayne and 9:46 into the third to make the score 6-2 Fort Wayne.

The win gave Fort Wayne a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Komets forced Thunder's netminders to work in net, finishing with 31 shots and forcing 25 saves. Adam Russo made 16 stops and Bryan Hogan made nine.

Fort Wayne additionally got points from Chris Auger, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Fort Wayne also got a goal from Daniel Maggio as well. More assists for Fort Wayne came via Stephon Thorne, Brett Smith, and Kaleigh Schrock, who each chipped in one and Leo Thomas and Colin Chaulk, who contributed two a piece.

Wichita was led by Chris Chappell, who racked up one goal and one assist. Chappell scored on the power play 17:34 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Fort Wayne. The Thunder earned a power play opportunity when Frankie DeAngelis was put in the box for hooking. Kevin Young picked up the assist. Kevin Seibel also scored for Wichita. In addition, Wichita received assists from Chris Greene, Thomas Beauregard, Aaron Davis, and Dustin Donaghy, who each chipped in one.

Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Komets incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Wichita incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
