Texas survives Wichita comeback, wins 3-2

NYTEX Brahmas    Wed, Apr 18, 2012

The Wichita Thunder tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Texas Brahmas would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by Mike Hellyer put Texas up 3-0 in the second period, but Wichita pulled to within one on RG Flath's tally 15:33 into the third period.

The win moved the Brahmas to down 2-1 in the best of seven series.

Texas put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Thunder to score on any of their four power plays. The Brahmas relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Adam Hogg, Tyler Barr and TJ Fox took nine of the team's 17 shots.

Texas also got a goal from Andrew Lackner as well. Other players who recorded assists for Texas were Brendon Hodge, Erik Spady, Chad Woollard, Sy Nutkevitch, Calin Wild, and Brett Findlay, who contributed one a piece.

Wichita did not rack up many penalties in the contest, racking up only one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Thunder relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Flath, Kevin Young and Alex Bourret took 12 of the team's 20 shots.

More assists for Wichita came via Jarred Mohr, who had one and Thomas Beauregard, who had two.

Texas' Brad Fogal stopped 18 shots out of the 20 that he faced. The Brahmas incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Wichita's starting goalie, Adam Russo, made 12 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Bryan Hogan, who stopped two shots.
