Fort Wayne squeaks by Missouri, 6-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Fort Wayne Komets escaped with a 6-4 victory over the Missouri Mavericks.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Bobby Chaumont's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The win by Fort Wayne clinched the best of seven series at 4-3.

The Komets got the win thanks to a great game by Chris Auger, who had two goals and one assist. Auger scored the first of his two goals at 9:11 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Fort Wayne. Jamie Milam picked up the assist. Auger's next tally made the score 6-4 Fort Wayne with 28 seconds left in the third period. Bryant Molle provided the assist.

Fort Wayne kept Missouri's goalie busy throughout the game, and Charlie Effinger made 33 saves on 39 shots. The Komets took advantage of the Mavericks' penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities. Fort Wayne got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Fort Wayne additionally got points from Frankie DeAngelis, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Fort Wayne also got a goal from Jamie Lovell as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fort Wayne were Daniel Maggio, Mike Vaskivuo, Brett Smith, Leo Thomas, and Colin Chaulk, who each chipped in one.

The Komets were unable to stop Missouri from sending pucks towards the net, and the Mavericks eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Missouri was helped by Ryan Jardine, who tallied two goals. Jardine scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:25 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Mavericks had gained a power play chance when Brent Henley was whistled for tripping. John-Scott Dickson picked up the assist. Jardine's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Missouri with 13:13 left in the second period. Andrew Courtney provided the assist. Missouri also got points from Courtney, who also registered one goal and one assist and Dickson, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Missouri came via Sebastien Thinel, who had two and Matt McCready, Dale Mahovsky, and Kris Hogg, who contributed one a piece.

Nick Boucher made 35 saves for Fort Wayne on 39 shots. The Komets incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Missouri incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
