Port Colborne survives St. Catharines comeback, wins 2-1

The St. Catharines Falcons tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Port Colborne Pirates would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 2-1.

Port Colborne took a 2-0 lead during the first period, only to have St. Catharines storm back on a Johnson Andrews goal 12:02 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

After the loss made the series score 2-3 in the best of seven series, the Falcons face elimination next time out.

The Pirates were led by goalie Real Cormier, who finished with 40 saves while allowing one goal. Cormier managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.83 prior to the game.

Port Colborne was helped by Dima Lavrenov, who had one goal. Lavrenov scored 19:40 into the first period to make the score Port Colborne. Michael Sharp provided the assist. Port Colborne also got a goal from Bryan Komasara as well. In addition, Port Colborne received assists from Carson Minor, Jordan Warren, and Charlie Izaguirre, who each chipped in one.

St. Catharines' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Port Colborne power plays. The Falcons' offense rang up 41 shots on the Pirates' net.

Other players who recorded assists for St. Catharines were Ben Dubois and Luke Karaim, who contributed one a piece.

Port Colborne incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. St. Catharines' Brad Pope stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Falcons incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. For St. Catharines, Tyler Jackson was ejected from the game.
