Hellebuyck stymies Amarillo, Odessa wins 5-1

The Odessa Jackalopes relied on the sparkling performance of Connor Hellebuyck in net to grab a 5-1 win against the Amarillo Bulls.

With the win, Odessa evened the series at 1-1 in the best of five showdown.

The Jackalopes were led by Lawrence Cornellier, who finished with one goal and one assist. Cornellier scored 11:55 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Odessa. Ryan Doucet assisted on the tally.

Odessa's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Amarillo power plays.

Odessa also got points from Doucet, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Odessa also got a goal from Taylor Portner as well. In addition, Odessa received assists from Curt Rau, Bryan Mitchell, Zach Mertes, and Tyler Cayemberg, who each chipped in one.

Amarillo stifled the Jackalopes' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Odessa was unable to stop the Bulls from sending pucks towards the net, and Amarillo eventually piled up 50 shots on goal.

The Bulls were led by John Gustafsson, who scored the team's only goal. Gustafsson scored 18:24 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Odessa. Joe Kozlak picked up the assist.

Hellebuyck recorded 49 saves for the Jackalopes. Odessa incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Gregg Gruehl rejected 24 shots on goal for Amarillo. The Bulls incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
