Wells' big game bests Hampton Roads in 7-4 Northern Lights win

Northern Lights' Gordon Wells had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 7-4 win over Hampton Roads.

Wells scored 4:13 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Northern Lights. Dominic Shuttleworth picked up the assist. Wells dished an assist on Nick Edwards' goal that made the score 2-1 Northern Lights at 14:02 into the first period. He added another helper on Lukas Sumerauer's goal that made the score 5-2 Northern Lights at 7:40 into the third period.

Northern Lights' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Hampton Roads power plays. Northern Lights kept Hampton Roads' goalie busy throughout the game, and Blake Scott made 42 saves on 49 shots.

Northern Lights also got points from Corbin Belling, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Sumerauer, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Northern Lights also got a goal from Dylan Blankenship as well. Other players who recorded assists for Northern Lights were Jace Childs, who had two and Eric Shand, Nick Kunes, Kevin Kassulat, and Paul Parisot, who contributed one a piece.

Hampton Roads forced Northern Lights goalie Nick Heimer to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Hampton Roads was helped by Yari Neitenbach, who racked up one goal. Neitenbach scored 17:04 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Dalton Gilbert provided the assist. Others who scored for Hampton Roads included Matthew Culcasi, who had one and Gerald Owen, who had two. In addition, Hampton Roads received assists from Cameron Snyder, who had two and Clayton Kanemitsu and Ryan Collins, who each chipped in one.

Heimer recorded 32 saves for Northern Lights. Northern Lights incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Hampton Roads incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
