Strathroy wins tough contest against London, 5-3West Middlesex Arena Sat, Mar 31, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Strathroy Rockets escaped with a 5-3 victory over the London Nationals. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Davis Brown secured the win for Strathroy with a goal in the third period. With the win, the Rockets evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown. Brown had two goals to lead Strathroy to victory. London's power play was ineffective against the Rockets' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Nationals were unable to stop Strathroy from sending pucks towards the net, and the Rockets eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. The defensemen of Strathroy were also effective in London's zone, and came away with two goals. Strathroy additionally got points from Tyler Duarte, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Jordan McNaughton, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Mitch McNeill also scored for Strathroy. More assists for Strathroy came via Ryan Field, Greg Milner, Chase Thornton, Derek Nap, and Nick Boyer, who each chipped in one. The Nationals forced the Rockets goalie Dalen Kuchmey to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. London's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The Nationals were led by Steven Taylor, who had two goals. Taylor scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:43 into the first period to make the score 1-1. London had taken the advantage when Strathroy's Dylan Wilson-Foote got sent off for high sticking. Tyler Bryden assisted on the tally. Taylor's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 London with 12:47 left in the first period. London also got a goal from Noah Schwartz as well. Other players who recorded assists for London were Aaron Dartch, who had one. Kuchmey recorded 31 saves for the Rockets. Strathroy incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors. The Rockets ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Justin Thomas was ejected from the game. The Nationals' Taylor Edwards stopped 37 shots out of the 41 that he faced. London incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
