Stratford wins tough contest against Brantford, 5-3

The game between the Stratford Cullitons and the Brantford Golden Eagles was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Stratford emerged with a 5-3 win.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Ray Huether at 6:47 of the third period.

The win moved the Cullitons to down 2-1 in the best of seven series.

Stratford's Taylor Dupuis was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 36 saves and let only one puck past him. Dupuis certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.72 entering the contest.

The Cullitons pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 26 penalty minutes.

Stratford's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 10 Brantford power plays.

Stratford also got points from Pat Clifford, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Brock Reynolds, who also had one goal and one assist. Pat Looby also scored for Stratford. Other players who recorded assists for Stratford were Tyson Avery, who had two and Tyler Marchand, Brad McClure, Mike Pleon, and Jared Culliton, who each chipped in one.

Brantford forced the Cullitons goalie Dupuis to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

The Golden Eagles were led by Matt Quilty, who grabbed two goals. Quilty scored the first of his two goals at 1:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brantford. Jeff Swift picked up the assist. Quilty's next tally made the score 3-1 Brantford with 13:41 left in the second period. Brandon Montour provided the assist. The score was assisted by Montour and Trent Hawke. Brantford also got a goal from Tyler Norrie as well. More assists for Brantford came via Mitch Brown and Dave Lazurus, who contributed one a piece.

Stratford registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Bryce O Hagan recorded 19 saves for Brantford. The Golden Eagles incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
