Missouri rolls over Evansville, 7-1Ford Center Fri, Mar 30, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Missouri Mavericks had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-1 win over the Evansville IceMen. The win gave Missouri a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. Evansville was stymied by the Mavericks netminder Charlie Effinger, who stopped 28 shots during the victory. Effinger certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.43 entering the contest. Missouri made the IceMen's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, racking up 37 shots and forcing 30 saves. Bryan Gillis made 12 stops and Pier-Olivier Pelletier made 18. The Mavericks took advantage of Evansville's penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities. Missouri was helped by Kris Hogg, who finished with one goal and two assists. Hogg scored on the power play 12:13 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Missouri. The Mavericks had gotten the advantage when the IceMen's Malcolm Gwilliam was sent off for hooking. Sebastien Thinel assisted on the tally. Missouri also got points from Patrick Schafer, who also had one goal and one assist and Dale Mahovsky, who also registered one goal and one assist. Brandon Smith also scored for Missouri. Other players who recorded assists for Missouri were Tristin Llewellyn, who had two and Dave Pszenyczny and Andrew Courtney, who each chipped in one. Evansville was led by Maxime Boisclair, who took one shot. Missouri ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. The IceMen totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play.
