Rapid City boosted by Boron's play in net, beats Fort Wayne 4-1

Rapid City relied on the sparkling performance of Tim Boron in net to grab a 4-1 win against the Fort Wayne Komets.

After the loss made the series score 2-3 in the best of seven series, Fort Wayne faces elimination next time out.

Rapid City got the win thanks to a great game by Konrad Reeder, who had one goal and two assists. Reeder scored on the power play 3:23 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Rapid City had gotten the advantage when the Komets' Jamie Milam was sent off for hooking. Jesse Schultz provided the assist.

Rapid City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Fort Wayne was unable to stop Rapid City from sending pucks towards the net, and Rapid City eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Rapid City also got points from Schultz, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Jeff Kyrzakos also scored for Rapid City. Other players who recorded assists for Rapid City were Jake Morissette, who had one.

The Komets were led by Mike Vaskivuo, who scored the team's only goal. Vaskivuo scored 14:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fort Wayne. Chris Auger picked up the assist.

Boron rejected 26 shots on goal for Rapid City. Rapid City totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Komets ended with 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors.
