Fort Wayne boosted by Boucher's play in net, beats Rapid City 3-1Rushmore Plaza Civic Arena Sat, Mar 31, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Nick Boucher stood on his head and made 30 saves to lead the Fort Wayne Komets to a 3-1 victory over Rapid City. With the win, Fort Wayne evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown. The Komets were paced by Colin Chaulk, who grabbed one goal. Chaulk scored 17:54 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Fort Wayne. Chris Auger provided the assist. Fort Wayne excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Fort Wayne also got a goal from Brett Smith as well. More assists for Fort Wayne came via Mike Vaskivuo, Stephon Thorne, and Jean-Michel Rizk, who each chipped in one. Rapid City put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Komets to score on any of their three power plays. Fort Wayne was unable to stop Rapid City from sending pucks towards the net, and Rapid City eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Rapid City was led by Jesse Schultz, who scored the team's only goal. Schultz scored 49 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Dominic DAmour assisted on the tally. The Komets incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Tim Boron rejected 24 shots on goal for Rapid City. Rapid City incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
