Christie leads Pensacola to shutout victory over Mississippi Surge

Steve Christie was superb between the pipes for the Pensacola Ice Flyers, as he did not allow a goal in a 2-0 victory over Mississippi Surge.

The win by Pensacola clinched the best of three series at 2-0.

The Ice Flyers were led by Steve Bergin, who tallied one goal. Bergin scored on the power play 8:28 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola. A clipping penalty on Adam Stuart had put Pensacola on the power play. Chris Wilson provided the assist.

The Ice Flyers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mississippi Surge to score on any of its three power plays.

Andrew Harrison also scored for Pensacola. More assists for Pensacola came via Jeff Sapieha, who had one.

Mississippi Surge relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Shawn Skelly, Tyler Ruel and James Isaacs took 17 of the team's 28 shots.

Steve Christie made 28 saves for Pensacola on 28 shots. The Ice Flyers incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Mississippi Surge's Kiefer Smiley stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Mississippi Surge ended with 43 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major. For Mississippi Surge, Stuart was ejected from the game.
