Pensacola boosted by Christie's play in net, beats Mississippi Surge 4-1

Steve Christie stood on his head and made 30 saves to lead the Pensacola Ice Flyers to a 4-1 victory over Mississippi Surge.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Mississippi Surge faces elimination next time out.

Pensacola's penalty kill excelled, as the Ice Flyers gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Pensacola was led by Jordan Chong, who finished with one goal. Chong scored on the power play 1:32 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Pensacola. A cross checking penalty on Shawn Skelly had put the Ice Flyers on the power play. Chris Wilson assisted on the tally.

Pensacola stifled Mississippi Surge's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Ice Flyers kept Mississippi Surge's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kiefer Smiley made 31 saves on 35 shots.

Pensacola additionally got points from Jeff Sapieha, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Casey Mignone also scored for Pensacola. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Steve Bergin, who had one.

Pensacola was unable to stop Mississippi Surge from sending pucks towards the net, and Mississippi Surge eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Mississippi Surge was led by Jeff Grant, who scored the team's only goal. Grant scored 13:56 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Pensacola. Skelly provided the assist.

The Ice Flyers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Mississippi Surge incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
