Mississippi RiverKings blows out Knoxville, 6-3

Mississippi RiverKings had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-3 win over the Knoxville Ice Bears.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Knoxville faces elimination next time out.

Jeff Topilko and Darrell Stoddard provided the spark for Mississippi RiverKings, combining for three goals and one assist. Topilko racked up two goals and Stoddard also added one goal and one assist.

Mississippi RiverKings also got points from Justin MacDonald, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Stoddard, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Mississippi RiverKings also got a goal from Deven Stillar as well. In addition, Mississippi RiverKings received assists from Matt Whitehead, who had two and Paul DAgostino, Kevin Hamel, Nick Vandenbeld, and Chevan Wilson, who contributed one a piece.

The Ice Bears did not rack up many penalties in the contest, tallying only one minor for two minutes in penalty time.

Knoxville was led by Emery Olauson, who registered two goals. Olauson scored the first of his two goals at 15:04 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Mississippi RiverKings. Kevin Swider picked up the assist. Olauson's next tally made the score 3-2 Mississippi RiverKings with 19:11 left in the second period. The Ice Bears had gotten the advantage when Mississippi RiverKings' Topilko was sent off for goalie interference. Swider provided the assist. David Segal also scored for Knoxville. Other players who recorded assists for Knoxville were Brad Pawlowski, Ricky Helmbrecht, and Mark Van Vliet, who each chipped in one.

David Wilson recorded 26 saves for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Kyle Rank took the loss and made seven saves before being replaced by Matt Hache who made 11 saves. Knoxville registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
