Montreal survives Brampton comeback, wins 4-2

Brampton tried to dig itself out of a three-goal hole, but Montreal held on for a 4-2 victory.

Montreal made the score 4-1 on a goal by Emmanuelle Blais at 12:54 in the third period, and Brampton got as close as 4-2 when Cherie Piper scored 17:27 into the third period.

Montreal's penalty kill excelled, as Montreal gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Montreal stifled Brampton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Montreal's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Montreal finished with 16 penalty minutes.

Montreal was helped by Alyssa Cecere, who tallied one goal. Cecere scored 23 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Montreal. Julie Chu picked up the assist. Caroline Ouellette also scored for Montreal. Other players who recorded assists for Montreal were Carly Dupont-Hill, Catherine Ward, Lisa-Marie Breton-Lebreux, Dominique Thibault, Meghan Agosta, and Sabrina Harbec, who each chipped in one.

Brampton put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Montreal to score on any of its six power plays.

Brampton was helped by Courtney Birchard, who registered one goal. Birchard scored 7:55 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Montreal. Vicki Bendus provided the assist. More assists for Brampton came via Andrea Ironside, who had one.

Brampton incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
