Hagersville survives penalties, beats Delhi, 3-1

Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Hagersville Hawks were able to defeat the Delhi Travellers, 3-1.

The win gave Hagersville a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Hawks were paced by Rob Clause, who registered one goal. Clause scored 4:18 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Hagersville. Greg Longboat provided the assist.

Delhi was unable to stop Hagersville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Hagersville also got a goal from Derek Medeiros as well. More assists for Hagersville came via Brock McEachern and Mike Gruhl, who each chipped in one.

The Travellers were held back by their power play unit, which tallied one goal on nine chances.

Delhi was led by Nathan Moyaert, who scored the team's only goal. Moyaert scored on the power play 9:50 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Delhi. The Travellers had gained a power play chance when Dakota Powless was whistled for head contact. Jake Legein picked up the assist.

Hagersville's Jordan Ironside stopped 24 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Hawks incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Nick Heath recorded 32 saves for Delhi. The Travellers incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
