Granite City survives North Iowa comeback, wins 3-2Armadillo Deck Arena East Sun, Mar 25, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The North Iowa Bulls tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Granite City Lumberjacks held on for a 3-2 victory. A goal by TJ Christenson put Granite City up 3-1 in the second period, but North Iowa pulled to within one on Steve Heller's tally 13:34 into the third period. The win by the Lumberjacks clinched the best of three series at 2-1. Peter Lindblad had two goals to lead Granite City to victory. Lindblad found the back of the net 40 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Granite City and again while 8:40 into the first to make the score 2-0 Granite City. In addition, Granite City received assists from Blayne Ellson, who had one and Riley Bengtson, who had two. The Bulls did not rack up many penalties in the contest, finishing with just one minor for two minutes in penalty time. North Iowa was helped by Bobby Chapman, who had one goal. Chapman scored 17:12 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Granite City. Eric Behrend provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for North Iowa were Skylar Harding and Nick Marsh, who each chipped in one. The Lumberjacks' Matt Grove stopped 26 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Granite City incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Matthew Bartels rejected 27 shots on goal for the Bulls. North Iowa registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
