Whitby falls apart in second, loses to Toronto Lakeshore, 9-1

The Whitby Fury was within striking distance after one period, but the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots put the pedal down in the second en route to a 9-1 victory.

The win by Toronto Lakeshore broke a deadlock and gave the Patriots a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Toronto Lakeshore got the win behind a great game by Wes Deme, who had one goal and two assists. Deme scored short handed 18:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Toronto Lakeshore. The Patriots played down a man on Shane Cavalieri's hooking. James Ryan assisted on the tally.

Toronto Lakeshore's penalty kill excelled, as the Patriots gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Toronto Lakeshore forced Whitby's goaltenders to work between the pipes, launching 36 shots and forcing 27 saves. Tyler Feaver made 11 stops and Donald Edwards made 16. Team could not crack the Fury's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Toronto Lakeshore additionally got points from Mathew Gaetz, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Matt Buckles, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Ryan Kinsella, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Daniel Tedesco also scored for Toronto Lakeshore. In addition, Toronto Lakeshore received assists from Tyler Enns, Dylan Carter, and Josh Wiley, who each chipped in one and Rob Simpson, Kyle Dutra, and Robbie Murden, who contributed two a piece.

Whitby also got a goal from Taylor Best as well. More assists for Whitby came via Devin Shore, who had one.

Cory Simic made seven saves before being replaced by Joseph Pianta, who took the win and made 19 saves. The Patriots incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Whitby incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Fury ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mike Hennessey was ejected from the game.
